Join us for the Calgary premiere of West Wind - an acclaimed documentary on the life of one of Canada's most famous and beloved artists.
Tom Thomson's vibrant landscape paintings helped define a young nation in the early 20th century and have become iconic symbols for Canada. On July 8, 1917, Thomson died mysteriously on Canoe Lake, just as he was reaching ascendancy in his career. Today, Thomson's life and art continue to fascinate us drawing thousands of people each year to his cairn and propels his paintings into the stratosphere of the Canadian arts market.
Shot in Algonquin Park, Georgian Bay, Leith, Toronto and Seattle, West Wind traces the remarkable life of this extraordinary Canadian artist featuring newly discovered interviews with those who knew Tom Thomson, letters from his family and friends and rarely seen paintings.
Program note (May 1, 2012): Nancy Lang, the film's researcher and co-producer, will be in attendance and available for Q & A following the screening. Due to a conflict, filmmaker Michele Hozer will not be in attendance.
